Plain English: when you buy through some of our links, we may earn a commission. Here is exactly how that works.

The short version

As an Amazon Associate, Decoy & Drake earns from qualifying purchases. When you click a buy button on this site and then buy something on Amazon, Amazon may pay us a small commission. You pay the same price you would pay anyway. The commission is how we pay for the site, and it's why the site has no paywall and no sponsored placements.

Buy buttons on this site go through a short redirect on our own domain (an address that starts with “/go/”) and then on to the retailer, currently Amazon. The redirect adds our Amazon Associates tracking tag so Amazon can credit the sale. Links to a retailer carry a small “#ad” label and are marked as sponsored links for search engines. Links to agencies, manufacturer spec pages and other sources in our articles are ordinary links and earn nothing.

Right now our buy buttons open an Amazon search for the exact model rather than a single product listing, so you can pick the pack size, boot size or color you need. If we later join a brand's own affiliate program, we'll link to that brand's store only when it's a better deal for you (better price, stock or warranty), and this page will list it.

Prices

Prices are set by the retailer and change often. We don't print a price we can't verify as current, so when we don't have a live, dated price, the button reads “Check price on Amazon”. If we show a price in the future, it will carry the date it was checked, and it will disappear on its own if it goes stale. The price on Amazon at the moment you buy is the one that applies.

Why commissions don't pick the winners

Every product is scored on a published rubric for its category, from the maker's spec sheets, manuals and warranty terms. Brands don't pay for placement and can't buy a better score, and every buy link earns the same way whichever product you choose. Where you don't need to buy anything (a spread you can run with the decoys you own, a wader that just needs a patch), we say so.
