A blind

Licenses, stamps and paperwork

Geese are migratory birds, so the same federal paperwork that covers ducks covers geese. Every goose hunter age 16 or older needs a current Federal Duck Stamp or E-Stamp, per the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service: "If you hunt migratory waterfowl and you are 16 years of age or older, you are required to purchase and carry a current Federal Duck Stamp or E-Stamp."

You also need to register for the current year's Harvest Information Program (HIP). USFWS lists geese specifically among the species that require it, alongside ducks, doves, woodcock, rails, snipe, sandhill cranes, band-tailed pigeons and gallinules; registration is typically completed with your state hunting license and renewed every year.

Beyond the federal requirements, your state sets its own license terms, season dates, shooting hours and bag limits, and those vary by zone as well as by year. Confirm all of it with your state wildlife agency before you hunt.
