How to choose a dog stand
A dog stand keeps a retriever up out of mud, cold water or a boat bilge between retrieves. Three published details separate the stands on this page: platform size, adjustable height range, and whether the maker publishes a weight capacity at all.
Platform size first. The MOmarsh Final Stand publishes the largest deck here at 31 x 24 inches; the ALPS Hybrid runs smaller at 26 x 24. A bigger platform matters more for a dog that turns around or shifts its weight while it watches the sky.
Height range second. These stands adjust from as low as 18 inches (MOmarsh Final Stand) to as high as 36 inches (ALPS Hybrid, Avery Ruff Stand). Match the range to the water you actually hunt: a prairie pothole or flooded rice field runs shallower than a slough in flooded timber.
Weight capacity third, and it's not published everywhere. The MOmarsh Final Stand and Avery Ruff Stand both publish a 150-lb rating. ALPS, Avery's Quick Stand and the MOmarsh Ramp Stand don't publish one at all, which we score as neutral rather than guess at.
