This page is narrower than our full best duck calls roundup on purpose: every pick below is a call its own maker markets to new callers, in the maker's own words, not a general list trimmed to the cheaper end.

Double reeds dominate this list for a reason. A double reed generally takes less air control to sound right than a single reed, which is why five of the six picks here are double reeds. For the full mechanics of that difference, see our single reed vs double reed comparison.

What we didn't pick, and why: a cutdown call is a single reed with its toneboard cut back and its bore widened for extra volume, and it requires you to create your own back pressure. That takes practice most new callers haven't built up yet, so no cutdown call appears on this page.

Tuning and warranty support isn't universal here. Buck Gardner is the only maker on this page that publishes a lifetime warranty and free retuning for the life of the call. Duck Commander and Faulk's publish neither for the calls above, and Haydel's, Zink and Faulk's leave the barrel material or warranty length unstated on the pages we checked.
