How to choose a goose call

Every call here is a short reed built for Canada geese, so the reed system and the maker's tuning and warranty support separate them more than barrel shape does. Sean Mann's Eastern Shoreman is explicit that it is not a flute-style call, and none of the picks below are marketed as flutes.

Barrel material ranges from RNT's acrylic to Buck Gardner's and Zink's polycarbonate to Sean Mann's molded ABS. Tuning and warranty support is uneven here, and it matters over a season. RNT and Buck Gardner both publish a lifetime warranty and free factory tuning, and Buck Gardner sells a plug-and-play guts kit for the Grey Ghost. RNT is worth a specific callout: it sells the parts to retune its own G3, but the maker's own FAQ recommends that only advanced callers actually take the call apart, and offers free factory tuning as the default instead.

Picking by situation

First goose call, or teaching someone to run one: the Express Shorty and the PC-1 are the two calls here their makers pitch directly at new callers, and Zink's own FAQ recommends the PC-1 for beginners.

Late-season, call-shy honkers: RNT markets the G3 as covering everything through late-season birds, and the Grey Ghost's fast double-clucks suit call-shy geese that need short, sharp sounds rather than long moans.
