How Many Goose Decoys Do You Need

These figures come from goose guides and hunters Ducks Unlimited interviewed about their own Canada goose spreads, not a fixed formula. A field geese are already using needs far fewer decoys, placed well, than an attempt to pull migrators down from altitude over open ground.

What to weigh besides the number

Landing-hole size matters more than total count. One guide profiled by Ducks Unlimited places landing zones 15 to 30 yards from the blind, depending on wind speed and the quality of concealment, and adjusts the hole size by moving decoys closer or farther rather than adding more of them. How many goose decoys do you need for field hunting?
It depends heavily on whether geese already use the field. About a dozen decoys per hunter can work with good positioning in a field geese are already feeding in; a large spread for migrating flocks over open ground often runs 100 or more.
Do silhouettes count the same as full-body decoys?
