How to choose a decoy bag
The right bag depends more on how you carry decoys than on how many you own. Slotted bags protect painted floaters from scuffing against each other; open backpack-style bags carry more per trip and put the weight on your back instead of one shoulder; and silhouette-specific bags are shaped and sized for flat decoys instead of round ones. For how many decoys you actually need to carry in the first place, see how many duck decoys you need and how many goose decoys you need.
Slots protect paint; open bags carry more. Rig'Em Right's 12-Slot Deluxe and GHG's 12-Slot bag each give every decoy its own compartment, which keeps weights and clips from wearing against another decoy's finish. Rig'Em Right's Refuge Runner and Long Haul are open-style bags that carry more decoys per trip (roughly 18 to 24, and up to about three dozen open, respectively) but let decoys ride loose together.
Carry system matters more the farther you walk. A single shoulder strap, like the one on the 12-Slot Deluxe, works fine for a short carry to a blind near the truck. For a longer walk-in, a padded backpack harness and waist belt, like the Refuge Runner's and Long Haul's, spreads the load and frees a hand for a gun or a spinner pole.
Silhouettes and socks need a different shape of bag entirely. Higdon's FLATS bag is self-standing and sized specifically for flat decoys, holding far more per bag than a round-decoy slot system could. If you're deciding between silhouettes and full bodies in the first place, see silhouette vs full-body goose decoys.
Warranty coverage is thin across this category. Rig'Em Right is the only maker here that publishes a bag warranty (1 year, limited); GHG and Higdon publish none for their decoy bags, only a 30-day return policy from Higdon.
How we scored these
Each bag is scored on four published metrics: capacity and compartment layout (30%), material and waterproofing (25%), carry system (25%), and durability and warranty (20%). The full weighting is published on how we score. These scores come from manufacturer spec sheets, not from loading and carrying these bags ourselves.
Picking by spread type and carry
Long walk-ins with a full spread: the Long Haul's padded straps and waist belt are built for exactly this, and its floating bottom is a plus if you set it down in the mud or shallow water.
Public land, gun and spinner together: the Refuge Runner's dedicated shotgun and spinning-wing pole compartments solve a specific packing problem the slotted bags don't address at all.
Mixed dozens of different decoy sizes: the X-Slot's adjustable 6-to-24 slot system beats a fixed 12-slot bag if your spread includes both mallard and diver decoys in different sizes.
Silhouette or sock spreads: the FLATS bag is purpose-built and will fit far more decoys per bag than a round-decoy bag ever could for that decoy type.
Who should skip all of these
Hunting almost entirely from a boat with a permanent rig: a dedicated boat storage system or crate may serve you better than a bag meant to be carried on foot. See best duck decoys and best goose decoys to build the spread these bags are meant to carry.

How we picked
Scored on paper, and we say so
Most gear sites say they tested everything. We didn't test these, and we say so. Every pick is scored from the maker's published specs, manuals and warranty terms on a rubric we publish, and the sources are listed at the bottom of the page.
Scores are editorial judgments from that published information, not field or lab results. Nobody pays for placement, and an unpublished spec is never guessed upward. See every rubric and weight.

We don't field-test decoys, calls, waders or blinds, and we don't pretend to. Specs, materials and warranty terms come from the maker's own pages and manuals (or a named retailer's listing where the maker doesn't publish them). Regulations are linked to the agency that writes them. Prices are set by Amazon and change often, so we don't print them. Where a figure isn't published, we say so. Read the full method.
