The per-decoy arithmetic

Nobody buys one full-body goose decoy. You buy a pack, then another pack, and the question that actually decides your spread is what each additional bird on the ground costs. Priced that way, the field narrows quickly: the twelve-bird pack at the top of this page works out to roughly half the price per decoy of the premium six-packs, because pack size does more for cost per decoy than any feature does.

This page is filtered on that number. Every pack here published a price on its maker's own site on September 28, 2026 that works out to roughly fifty dollars a decoy or less. Two very good six-packs sit just above that line and are named further down rather than quietly dropped. The ranking inside the page is our normal published-spec score, not the price: price decides who is on the page, specs decide the order.

Full bodies earn their price in one specific situation. They hold their shape from every angle, which matters when birds circle low and look at the spread from the side before committing — pressured local geese on small fields, late-season birds that have seen every silhouette spread in the county. What to look for in a full-body pack

Postures, and the mix. A real flock is mostly heads-down feeders with a few uprights and a sentry watching. The packs here publish their mixes: GHG's Pro-Grade Lesser pack is eight feeders, three actives and a sentry; the Hunter Series pack is four feeders, a rester and an active; Dakota's uprights are three walkers, two relaxed and a sentry; Higdon's APEX pack is all six feeders. Buying two identical feeder packs gives you twelve identical decoys, which reads wrong from the air.

One-piece bodies or removable heads. One-piece decoys — GHG's Pro-Grade Lesser and Dakota's Signature — have nothing to assemble in the dark and nothing to lose in the stubble, at the cost of fixed postures. Removable heads let you re-pose the spread and swap a broken head instead of a body; GHG's Hunter Series threads its heads onto PermaLoc studs specifically because snapped-off heads are the classic failure.

Stakes or bases, decided by your ground. Stakes are cheaper and hold better in soft dirt; motion bases stand on frozen ground where a stake will not go and rock in a light breeze. Dakota's Signature uprights ship on Wind Walker bases with no stakes at all, Higdon's APEX publishes stakes built to move, and both GHG packs include motion stakes. In a hard-frozen field in January, this is the spec that decides whether you hunt.

Flocking, and where it is. Flocked heads kill the glare that gives plastic away where birds look first, and every pack here publishes flocked heads. Fully flocked bodies look better in flat light and cost considerably more, which is exactly why the fully flocked packs sit above this page's price line.

Size class matters more than people expect. GHG's Pro-Grade Lesser pack is sized as a lesser Canada rather than a full-size honker. That is a genuine advantage where you hunt lessers, and a genuine problem if you mix it into a full-size spread, where the size difference reads as wrong rather than as variety.

Price is not a metric — it decides which packs qualify for this page, not their order — and these are the same scores the decoys carry everywhere else on this site. Note that packability counts against every full body here: they are bulky by design, and that is the trade you accept for shape from every angle. Warranty barely separates them, since only Dakota publishes a term at all, and that is a 30-day defect window.

Work out how many decoys you want in the field, divide your budget by that number, and buy the biggest pack that clears it. For most hunters filling a field, GHG's Pro-Grade Lesser Harvester pack is the most decoys per dollar with flocked heads and motion stakes included — as long as your spread is not already full-size honkers. If your ground freezes hard, Dakota's Wind Walker bases are worth the step up; if you want the classic feeder core to build around, the Higdon APEX pack does that and nothing else. Then add postures rather than repeating one: two identical packs make a spread that looks manufactured.
